Survivor Fitness has the privilege of partnering with some of the most experienced and dedicated fitness trainers across Tennessee. Every single one of our partners is passionate about health, wellness, and helping people achieve things that seem impossible. They also find themselves personally transformed by the journey of working with Survivor Fitness participants.

David Rogers is one of those trainers.

David is an AFAA Certified Personal Trainer who has been building a successful career in the health and wellness industry since 1993. He has worked with Survivor Fitness participants at A|Train Fitness in Nashville since 2020 and is one of our biggest advocates and supporters. To date, he has worked with more than 30 participants—each one leaving a lasting impact on his life.

Motivated to Make a Difference

David’s connection to the Survivor Fitness mission is deeply personal. Having witnessed multiple family members battle cancer, he understands the emotional and physical toll that comes with the journey. That personal connection fuels his dedication to helping cancer survivors regain their strength, both physically and mentally.

“Seeing their struggles and the determination of each Survivor Fitness client makes me realize that anything is possible through exercise, health, and wellness,” David shares.

For David, working with Survivor Fitness participants is more than just training—it’s transformative. He finds immense satisfaction in seeing participants grow throughout the programs. Witnessing their increasing confidence, resilience, and physical abilities is incredibly rewarding.

“A handful of my clients started the 12-week program with tears of sadness, despair, and doubt but ended with tears of joy, excitement, and promise for the life ahead,” he says.

Growth and Transformation

David believes every cancer survivor’s journey is unique, and working with Survivor Fitness has reinforced the importance of understanding, adaptability, and perseverance. He sees every participant’s first step into the gym as a victory.

“There’s only one way to go when starting the programs: little by little. Participants get stronger, gain balance, and have more endurance for everyday living,” David explains. “Even if they start from scratch due to treatments and surgeries, they all progress toward a more normal life.”

One key lesson David has learned is the value of individualized personal fitness training for cancer survivors. Every participant has unique needs based on their medical history, treatments, and limitations. He works alongside participants to adjust and adapt exercise routines to match their specific capabilities and goals. By focusing on small, personalized adjustments, David ensures everyone finds success at their own pace.

However, the most meaningful part of his work is the deep connection built between trainers and participants. As much as he helps survivors reclaim their strength, David feels equally enriched by their growth and determination.

“Survivor Fitness is a game-changer for both the participant and the trainer!” David exclaims. “This program gives participants purpose in recovery, and it gives trainers fulfillment in their craft. With every graduating participant, I learn lessons that are just as valuable when it comes to determination and the will to live!”
